“That is not by luck. It’s just the fact that we’ve worked hard and we are a good team,” said Stags manager Adam Murray.

“You can have all the resources and pull in the massive crowds, but we work hard and we do a lot of work on the training ground that has got us to where we are. So we will go into this game confident.”

Hatters’ new boss Nathan Jones will be in charge for his second game after a 0-0 draw with Cambridge and Murray said: “They have got a new manager, so they have that rush, but we believe we are a competitive team for anyone in this league.

“I know him and his background and he is a very good coach. You can only go off one game really. You can look back at other games but you don’t know what he is putting in. The preparation will be about us.”

He added: “I felt down there we should have beaten them, especially after our second half performance.

“But they’ve got a great squad – I think they’ve got something like 30 pros – so I think it’s just a matter of time before someone gets holds of it and points it in the right direction.

“We have to be aware of what they bring. But I have got so much belief in my team at the minute that when we get it right we are going to be okay.”

The Luton game is the last of the club’s three ‘Kids for a Quid’ deal for 17s and under.

Murray is hoping home fans can recreate the backing the game at the last home game.

“The Stevenage game was the best I’ve seen them – I came out and it was like being in Turkey,” he smiled.

“They were brilliant and it made a difference to the players. They’ve seen that.”
