Stags are on a five game winning run and are now just five points off the play-off after spending most of the season looking over their shoulders.

But Clough insists it is important for his players to remember what has got them to the place they are now in.

“Confidence is a wonderful thing to have in football and we have got it at the moment,” he said.

“We are not going to get carried away and we will remind the players each day of what it took to win those five games and the work-rate involved, the second that drops then we won't be the same team.

“The hard work, defensive or attacking wise, we need that in order to stand a chance.”

And Clough is also keen that his players keep their focus and keep doing what they do well.

“The league is so tight but there is still a lot of work to do yet,” he adde. “There is no outstanding team in the division and it will stay tight for the rest of the season.

“We are capable of beating anybody in the league and I hope people are starting to take note.

The play-offs being mentioned doesn’t bother us or change things.

“Maybe if we get there with five or six games to go and we are in with a shout then that might be the case.

“Let’s see where we are at the end of February or the start of March and take it from there.

“Let’s just keep trying to win games and not hamper ourselves with any talk of whether we can do this or that, let’s just keep winning games.”
