Promotion-chasing City were beaten 1-0 at Leyton Orient on Saturday to leave them just outside the play-off places.

It leaves Clough expecting Mansfield to have to deal with a reaction as they look to make it three wins in a row.

“We have to back the result up,” he said. “We have two important games coming up this week - it’s a big week for us.

“They will be a different challenge. We are expecting a reaction from them, but we have to keep ticking on and maintain our momentum, without getting over confident.

“They are a side more than capable of challenging and their ambitions are there for all to see.

“They are big spenders and have a lot of quality on the pitch.”

Striker Jordan Bowery goes into the game in a rich vein of form with five goals in three games.

And Clough hopes there's more to come.

“We hope there is more to come from Jordan,” said Clough. “He has to take the form on now and kick on.

“From the first game we saw him against Walsall, when we were watching from the stands, he has been good. Now he is getting confidence with the goals and he has to take it on.”
