“We were the better side from minute one to minute 90,” Funk said after the match.

“Although we went 2-0 down, we came back and we were in the game.

“I can’t even find any negativity. I am proud and you don’t hear me saying that many times after you lose a game of football.”

Bulls midfielder Pat Lindley was dismissed for a high challenge on Scott Brown after just three minutes.

Pontefract took advantage of the extra man and went ahead in the 15th minute when Vaughan Redford glanced home, before Eli Hey’s low drive doubled the lead.

Two goals in as many minutes through Kieran Wells and debutant Charlie Dawes hauled the Bulls level.

An outstanding save denied Wells and 10 minutes from time Hey tapped home the winner before Lynton Karkach was dismissed.
