Early goals keep Wood in title fight

Sherwood Colliery remain ready for any slip-ups from the top two in the Central Midlands League Black Dragon Badges South Division after a 2-1 win against Linby Colliery.

Julian Topliss gave the Wood an ideal start, netting after just three minutes, and Jamie York doubled the advantage on the half hour.

Lewis Weaver reduced the deficit in added time in the first half.

Sherwood are third, 11 points behind leaders Selston but with three games in hand.

They have four games in hand on second-placed Eastwood Community.

Hucknall Town’s fading title hopes were dealt a blow in a 3-2 defeat to Matlock Town Reserves that left them fifth on 39 points, but with games in hand.
