"It's a club which has the facilities and the players to achieve promotion and that will be my aim," he said.

Rovers chairman Mark Palios said: "Keith emerged as the strongest candidate and I am delighted he has accepted the role.

"With Keith's managerial experience, and Ian and Andy's knowledge of the current squad and coaching ability, I am confident they will make a very effective team."

Elsewhere, Kevin Ellison scored a 96th minute winner as leaders Newport County beat Port Vale 1-0.

It leaves The Exiles three points clear of chasing Cheltenham Town, who beat Walsall 3-0.

Struggling Stevenage were beaten 2-1 at home to Bolton Wanderers and remain in bottom two as they look to avoid a second successive ‘relegation.’

Mansfield’s 1-1 draw at home to Colchester United on Friday night leaves them three points ahead of Stevenage ahead of another round of matches on Tuesday night.
