League probe after Ollerton game is abandoned over ‘racism’ allegation

The referee is understood to have called a halt to proceedings after hearing an alleged racist comment on the field of play and Central League officials are expected to discuss the incident upon receiving the referee’s report. Chad were unable to contact anyone from Ollerton.

Easington United made a good start with a 2-0 win over the much fancied Thoresby Colliery Welfare side. Both of the Eastenders’ goals came in a three minute spell in the second half from Chris Frost and Stef Radley.

James Whitfield opened the scoring for Glapwell in their 4-1 defeat of Kinsley Boys at Hall Corner. Adam Cameron equalised for Kinsley on the stroke of half-time, but further goals from Sam Bartram, Adam Seward and a last minute penalty by Dave Fedrick settled it for Glapwell.

Bilsthorpe’s first game saw them gain a point from a 2-2 draw with Appleby Frodingham. Bilsthorpe were two up at the break, Mark Carter claiming both, but the Scunthorpe side rallied in the second half, Matthew Oates ensuring a share of the points.

There were plenty of goals in the Black Dragon Badges North Division, with 38 scored in the seven completed matches. Newark Town and Westella VIP led the way with nine each. Westella fell behind to the first of two Lloyd Kemp goals at Welbeck Welfare but had scored five of their own by the break and ran out easy winners.

Chris Spinks got his season off to a spectacular start with five for Westella and Gary Flounders grabbed two.

At Station Road, Newark had it nearly all their own way against Phoenix, coming out on top by nine clear goals.

Town’s goals were shared between Luke Parsons (2), Luke Hutchinson, Arron Martin, Reece Self, Calum Fraser, Jamie Brooks, Ian Hillier and an own goal.

Biggest score of the afternoon came at Hollinwood Lane where Pinxton had an 8-1 win over Calverton Miners Welfare.

Hucknall Rolls Leisure celebrated their return to the CML after a five year gap with a 3-1 win against Southwell City.

Andy Start and Harry Allen gave the home side a two goal cushion, Stef Whitely getting one back for the Minstermen before Jack Smith ensured Rolls a winning start to the campaign.

The well-travelled Pete Stubley was the man on target for Blidworth Welfare as they got the better of Belper United.
