Law challenges Alfreton players to finish season on a high

The Reds boss has seen his side draw both Easter games by the same 1-1 scoreline.

After a draw at home with Gloucester City on Saturday, the second same result on Easter Monday extended Alfreton’s unbeaten run away from home to nine games in all competitions, eight in the league.

However, on the flip side, the Reds will also be looking for a first league win in seven games when they travel to bottom-of-the-table Corby Town this Saturday, the sides having shared the spoils of a 1-1 draw at the Impact Arena just eight games ago, one of five drawn games out of the last eight for Alfreton.

Law feels his side have much more to offer and is looking for them to rediscover their winning mentality.

He said: “I think some of the players got to the point where we were safe (in the league) and have not kicked on which is disappointing.

“We are not going up and we are not going down either and the club have not been in that situation for a lot of seasons.

“It is now down to motivation over the last few games. It is up to each individual player to show me how much they want to win each and every game.

“I want us to finish the season off positively. We have got a very good record of just one defeat in the last nineteen games in all competitions but we have just not managed to get enough wins in there. We have let slip points at crucial stages.

“With a new squad, it was always going to be a learning curve this year. Perhaps we have not got enough players who know how to or want to win games. It is up to them now to show me otherwise.”

Alfreton’s point from the Easter Monday game at Gainsborough Trinity came courtesy of a Dan Bradley penalty in the fifth minute of added time for which Law was thankful.

He added: “I was disappointed with the performance to be honest. I thought we started off the better side but we then became sloppy in possession and gave the ball away too easily.

“We conceded a poor goal against the run of play but we didn’t really do a lot in the final third and made it hard for ourselves.

“We got the late goal though, and although it’s not a win, it is another game unbeaten.”
