Late winner ruins Teversal fightback in game of two red cards

A spectacular winner two minutes into injury-time scuppered a fightback from 2-0 down by Teversal in an ill-tempered match at Anstey Nomads.

Teversal looked as if they had escaped with a point against their fellow East Midlands Counties League title-chasers after a contest that saw both sides receive red cards. But then James Ireland produced a superb free-kick to give the Leicestershire outfit a 3-2 win.

An action-packed afternoon had started when Anstey were gifted the lead in the seventh minute as Darren Taylor’s effort from 20 yards was allowed to slip through the grasp of ‘keeper Josh Turton. And four minutes later, the hosts struck again when Mason Hirst’s free-kick found the top corner.

Teversal hit back strongly in the second half as Matt Wilkinson halved the deficit on 54 from a through ball by Brett Watson, and Danny Fletcher bundled home a disputed equaliser five minutes later.

As the challenges flew in, both Sam Lavelle and Anstey’s Lewis Turland were sent off after a mass melee in the 75th minute.

TEVERSAL LINE-UP -- Turton/ Bacon L., Vincent, Laister, Gregory J., Watson B., Sargent (Geeson 70), Lavelle, Fletcher, Wilkinson, Bamford. Subs not used: Tighe, Short, Charlesworth.
