Late goals put shine on win for Teversal

If things couldn’t get any worse for Appleby, they picked up yet another injury when Ross Jacklin had to be replaced by Lee Beacroft after only 18 minutes.

To add salt to the wound Teversal took a deserved lead on 21 minutes when Dave Cockerill delivered a corner that invited Eli Mitchell to race in and produce a rare diving header to head past the stranded Brocklebank in the visitor’s goal to make it 1-0.

Only five minutes later it was 2-0, this time it was Mitchell who was the provider from a corner on the opposite side and his skipper Witcombe rose above everyone else to place his header in at the far post. It looked like the floodgates had been opened, but credit to Appleby they battled on and a clinical finish by Neul on 56 minutes halved the arrears.

On 67 minutes the two-goal cushion was reinstated when Wood forced a save from Brocklebank and tucked away the rebound from a tight angle.

After the usually reliable Colin Cockerill had put a 74th minute spot kick wide, a frantic last five minutes saw three goals and a disallowed goal.

Dennis had an effort chalked off for offisde before Matthew Start scored a debut goal in the 88th minute to make it 3-2.

But from the restart a neat passing move saw Callum Pursglove added his second goal in a week and the scoring was complete in added on time when Tobin firedhome from 16 yards.

Teversal’s next game is on Saturday when Grimsby Borough are the visitors (3pm).
