Late goals dump Glapwell out of cup

Two goals in the final eight minutes were enough for Belper United to send Glapwell crashing out of the League Cup after a 2-0 defeat at Hall Corner.

Belper went close early on when Luke Crosby cut in from the left and hit an effort against the post with Jordan McRobie firing the rebound wide.

Ryan Hopkins then made two fine saves to keep Glapwell level before Joshua Marshall blocked a shot on the line with Scott Clapperton volleying just wide of the post with the rebound.

Glapwell’s best two chances of the first period fell to Ash Barber with the first one just clearing the crossbar, while he fired the second straight at visiting keeper Adam Jablonski from Carl Vickers’ clearance.

The second half was a scrappier affair and it looked like extra-time and penalties were going to be required, but Belper took the lead with eight minutes remaining when Jordan McRobie’s dipping volley flew into the bottom corner.

Belper made sure of their progression in injury-time when Aaron Pride capitalised on a mix-up at the back to tap home from inside the penalty area.
