In a scrappy, physical game, Stags had soaked up all the home side had to offer and led through a Lucas Akins penalty as the game went past the six added minutes that had been indicated.
But then a series of refereeing decisions went against them as Ryan Sweeney was ordered off after a bang to the head, Stevenage grabbed an equaliser from a drop ball the visitors felt they should not have been given and Louis Reed was red-carded for his protests in a fiery finish to the contest.
Here are our player ratings from the game . . .

1. LIAM ROBERTS 7
Had very little to do on the day apart from shots from distance that brought routine saves. Felt he was fouled for the last gasp Stevenage equaliser that ruined his clean sheet. Photo: Alex Livesey

2. LUCAS AKINS 8
Another sterling display at right back. Had Stags' only real chance of the first half cleared off the line. Akins got forward well when able and eventually put the visitors ahead with another well-placed penalty kick. Photo: Chris Holloway

3. DEJI OSHILAJA 7
Partnered Sweeney well as Stevenage rained in the free kicks and throws. Had one sticky moment was an overhit back pass that proved testing for Roberts. Photo: Chris Holloway

4. RYAN SWEENEY 8
Once again, a commanding display to keep the home side well at bay. Made an absolutely crucial clearance on a loose ball in front of goal. Was unlucky at the end when told to leave the field after taking a blow to the head and only able to watch as Stevenage equalised in controversial fashion.
