Meanwhile Southwell’s opponents in Thursday’s Minor Cup Final, Alvaston United, had a much better send off when they defeated Old Bemrosians 5-1. The goals were shared between Neil Ainsley, Gary McLoughlin, Callum Cossey, Tom Rutter and Tom Childs.

Goals for Nottinghamshire III from Damien Dyce and Nathan Hall were insufficient to prevent a 4-2 defeat by Derby Deaf, whose next match will be against Manchester United Deaf in the British Deaf Cup.

Meanwhile a solitary 78th minute goal from Craig Armstrong provided Old Elizabethans III with three points at the expense of Sunnydale.

Goals from Khyle Sargent and Pat Durkin saw Rainworth Rangers through to the Senior Cup Final at the expense of holders Bestwood MW, who were denied by the woodwork on two occasions in the first half of a competitive encounter which saw both sides reduced to 10 men after half-time in an evenly contested game.

The other semi-final failed to provide a surprise when Premier Division outfit Woodborough United defeated Division One’s Eaton Hall College 5-1 with Dom Lynas claiming a hat-trick and Matt Hulley and Matt Penfold completing the tally whilst Josh Stansbury claimed the College consolation goal.

In contrast the tables were turned between the two divisions when Division One’s Old Elizabethans II secured a 4-1 victory over Premier Division outfit Beeston AFC II in their Intermediate Cup semi-final tie.
