He said: They are very attack-minded, and likewise so are we.

“Hopefully it will be an entertaining game. But we’re going to have to defend. The lads have kept a couple of clean sheets and touch wood we haven’t conceded too many goals - hopefully we can continue that.

“Mansfield have a good manager and good players, and are strong for this division. Dave Flitcroft’s teams play good football and I’m expecting a really tough game.

“They are one of the teams I think will be in and around it towards the end of the season, with the squad of players they’ve got.

“But we are going there buoyant and thinking we are going to win the game. If we play like we have been of late, creating chances, we’ll have a good chance.”

Definite Carlisle absentees are keeper keeper Joe Fryer (broken leg), left-back Danny Grainger (calf), midfielder Mike Jones (hamstring) and midfielder Jason Kennedy (pelvis).

Adam Collin is set to replace Fryer, and Macaulay Gillesphey to come in for Grainger.

They Cumbrians were also trying to bring in another goalkeeper on loan ahead of the game.
