Jamie McGuire to continue giving his all for Mansfield Town

As a player, Stags fans were used to seeing Jamie McGuire give nothing less than 100 per cent for the cause.

And that is what the 33-year-old has promised to uphold as he makes his first step into coaching with Mansfield Town.

McGuire, who made more than a century of appearances for the Stags during his playing career, has taken up the club’s offer of a role with the academy.

“I was ‘made up’ by the offer, delighted to accept it and am really looking forward to this new challenge,” said McGuire.

”I’d like to say a big thank you to the gaffer (Steve Evans), chairman (John Radford) and the chief executive (Carolyn Radford).

“I gave 100 per cent in every game for Mansfield Town and that’s what I’ll be giving in this new role in the academy.

“I will miss playing (professionally) a lot, especially at the One Call Stadium, though I think I have a couple of years left in me playing part-time.

“I have a lot of learning to do, but I’m eager to develop as a coach. I’ll be giving my heart and soul to this new role.”

McGuire joined the Stags in 2013 after four years with Fleetwood Town. He began at Tranmere Rovers and went on to play for Northwich, Cammel Laird and Droylsden, making close to 300 career appearances overall.

Now, the popular figure, will be part of the Mansfield Town’s backroom staff, coaching players in the under-21s and youth teams, while still harbouring ambitions of playing part-time.
