Jake Brown’s Nottingham Forest blog: Forest have plenty of goals in the side

Forests obsession with a goal-scoring number 9 has been ever present since David Johnson. We were then controversially given Robert Earnshaw, and since the little Welshman we’ve demanded another free scoring front man.

Well, the question is now, Do we really need one? With seven strikers on the books possibly eight if Jamie Paterson can play centrally, we surely need to offload before we bring another in. I for one am not worried about splashing the cash on a new striker just yet in what is already a difficult market, add to that the new FFP rulings. After-all, last season we made a play-off push with goals solely from our midfield almost.

I personally think with the addition of Paterson, Mackie and Abdoun with Simon Cox, Raddy Majewski and Andy Reid all behind Darius Henderson, there is an abundance of options which has plenty of goals in it. With real width and plenty of crosses I think Darius Henderson could have a field day this season. With Matt Derbyshire desperate to stay and prove his worth too, a lot of people are comparing his new lease of life to the one of David Johnsons all those years ago when he too returned from a loan spell re-invigorated. The 27-year old was on fire during pre-season and looked like he had a lot to prove against Huddersfield this past Saturday, added to that the striker scored a very well taken header against Hartlepool in Tuesdays league cup tie coming off the bench. Anyone with fire in the belly and points to prove I would keep around, there will be strikers leave though this month it seems at some point.

If I was Billy Davies I wouldn’t be rushing into the market for a striker, especially with the weeks ticking by we could see ourselves over-paying for the desired target. I think we may only see the imminent addition of Kelvin Wilson now in this window.

We have all types of striker already on our books, target men, work horses, a poacher in Derbyshire, this seemingly being Jamie Mackies level now, all this without even seeing the much anticipated Djamel Abdoun. Lets see how we do with the three difficult games we have coming up including two away trips. Lets assess the strikers after those games and make a decision then, but in my view, we have goals there already, we just need to adapt our play in order to give them proper service and opportunities.
