Jack’s back and loving his life at Clipstone

Having been a regular scorer on both the Sunday League and non-league scene over the years, a difficult spell at AFC Mansfield left him questioning his future.

But along came Clipstone, where Jack’s identical twin brother Lewis was already captain, and Jack has never looked back, currently being the Cobras’ top scorer and playing what he hopes will be a big part in an ambitious future at the Lido Ground.

He said: “I’d been at Bolsover and scored a lot of goals there and when manager Matt Chatfield went to AFC Mansfield and wanted me to go with him, it made sense given how well I got on with him personally and professionally.

“But things didn’t work out. It was nothing against the club itself, it was more the way some of the players there took to the game and it wasn’t for me as I just didn’t click.

“As a result, my performances dropped and I didn’t enjoy it, but as I was on contract there I had to go through the motions of getting released and going somewhere I was a bit more appreciated. It made me question whether I wanted to carry on playing.”

But 24-year-old Warwick, a kitchen designer by trade who describes himself as a ‘target man with a bit of pace as well’ and who netted a hat-trick in the recent win over Gedling, would soon find salvation when Cobras boss Dave Hoole came knocking in October.

He said: “I’ve a lot of respect for Dave Hoole and obviously my brother was getting in my ear too trying to sell it to me.

“In the end, they said they wanted to make me the main striker and build the team around me and the goals would come. They were right.

“I can’t speak highly enough of everyone at Clipstone. It’s a club that wants to grow, improve and progress up the levels and that’s admirable.

“There’s great quality in this squad, particularly through the core of the team, and with the right players I think we can certainly aim high.

“I’m also ambitious and would love to achieve that here and if we can stay together as a group I see no reason why we can’t succeed.”
