EFL bosses have signalled their desire to finish the league campaign once it is safe to do so, with previous statements saying it will take 56 days to finish outstanding matches.

But a number of League Two clubs have concerns over the amount of player contracts due to expire on 30th June and the additional expense they could face by a prolonged season.

It is unclear when the season may be able to resume with club owners resisnged to the fact that matchces will have to be played behind closed doors.

There is also concern that some owners who clubs have relied upon to keep them afloat by making payments to cover losses will not be able to do so, because of their own businesses struggling amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Cambridge United furloughed first-team players yesterday, joining Newport and Crewe.
