Hosiery Mills Ladies prepare for cup final

After making a step up from the Nottinghamshire Ladies League, winning the league and cup double in their final season there, the Hosiery Mills Ladies found the start to the season hard going, losing the first five games and losing their manager.

It was left to coach Andy Pearce to take the helm, and he got off to a great start, narrowly getting their first win against Ruddington by a 3-2 scoreline.

The ladies, who are based at The Fieldings in Huthwaite alongside Sutton Town AFC, did lose the week after before going on a seven game unbeaten run.

Whilst trying to get a respectable league position the ladies were still competing in the League Plate, firstly seeing off Raunds Town of the South Division 4-1 to set up a quarter-final clash with Solar Ladies, the North Division League Champions, defeating them 3-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

Continuing to get good results in the league, the Hosiery Mills went to Leicestershire to play Oadby & Wigston in the Plate semi-final, winning 2-0 and setting up a Plate final against Lutterworth Athletic at Arnold Town FC this Sunday (2pm).

Last weekend, Hosiery Mills Ladies completed their league season with a game at Retford.

The club’s top goalscorer, Amy Jones, found the net to take her season’s impressive tally to 33, but she also missed a penalty as they went down 2-1.

That left the club finishing in sixth position with a final playing record of eight wins and two draws from 18 games.
