Hempshill Hall Primary School celebrate taste of big time at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground

Young footballers representing Hempshill Hall Primary School had a taste of the big time when they took part and won a prestigious competition at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground.

There was a nail-biting finish to the finals of the annual Ron Matthews Memorial Trophy which saw Hempshill’s young stars triumph following a thrilling penalty shoot-out.

Six Nottingham Primary Schools contested the U11’s (small sided) games and Hempshill captained by Ben Wallis progressed to the final following a 1-0 victory over Bulwell’s Cantrell Primary. Lewis Williams scoring the all important goal.

The final against Wollaton’s Fernwood School was another thrilling affair ending in a 0-0 draw which was followed by extra-time which also ended in a stalemate.

The resultant penalty shoot-out tested the metal of Hempshill’s penalty takers Ben Wallis and Tom Skellett who duly scored to clinch a well earned success.

The Ron Matthews Memorial Trophy success completed a remarkable treble for Hempshill whose squad coached and managed by Jonathan Wright and Darren Palethorpe had previously won the Schools Karnival (correct)Tournament and the Primary Schools League title.
