Alfreton Town are out of the FA Cup without kicking a ball.

The Reds were due to face FC United of Manchester on Tuesday evening, but were forced to withdraw from the competition due to a case of COVID-19 in the camp.

Billy Heath’s side became the third National League North club to lose their place in the competition this week due to coronavirus, following on from Boston United and Kettering Town.

This season's rules state a postponed match has to be played within two days or be forfeited.

A club statement read: "Alfreton Town can confirm that we have received a positive test for COVID-19 and in the interest of safety for all concerned, tonight's Emirates FA Cup tie at FC United has been cancelled.

"All at the club are devastated to have to withdraw from the competition and we wish FC United all the best in the next round.

"Following protocols and medical advice, safety comes first and the club's priority is to keep everyone safe during these unprecedented times.

"We will be fully supporting the individual involved and we wish them a speedy recovery."

Chairman Wayne Bradley apologised to fans on Twitter.

"The players, management & staff are devastated! Sorry if we have let any one down by making this call of action. We wish FC United the best in the FA Cup as they progress," he wrote.

"Our respect for the protocol in place, aimed at beating this virus is paramount in our actions."

Elliott Reeves netted as Town drew 1-1 at home to Spennymoor Town on Saturday.
