Stags were dealt a blow with the shock departure of captain Nicky Hunt, who joined League Two rivals Leyton Orient.

But Murray moved quickly to replace him with 23-year-old right-back Daniel Alfei from Swansea.

And he secured a permanent deal for loanee midfielder James Baxendale.

Stags fan Simon Kowalenk tweeted: “Not much happened in the transfer window quite disappointing. Happy with the business by @mansfieldtownfc #DeadlineDay.”

Reacting to the signing of Alfei on Facebook, Stefan North posted: “I can rememeber him playing for Prtsmouth a couple of seasons ago, decent player welcome Daniel.”

And Sam Lakin said: “‘One for the future’ which is why we’ve signed him on loan. Sounds decent by all accounts, though. Welcome to the club.”

Andy Pugh added: “Is AM going to play him and Benning as wing backs with Pearce, Taff and Collins as three centre halfs? If he is as good as attacking as Benning is it might be worth a try, don’t think he could really do it when we had Hunt due to his lack of pace.”

On the signing of Baxendale, Jason Whitham tweeted: “Brilliant signing! Happy with that!!”

Glyn Hallam said on Facebook: “That looks good business!!”

Liam Wood added: “Quality player, well done Mansfield.”

And Helen Knowd commented: “A real statement of intent - COYS!.”
