Fox happy to be Plymouth's FA Cup hero with first goal
Matchwinner David Fox admitted he was surprised to be given so much space on the edge of the box to be able to fire Plymouth Argyle into round two of the FA Cup yesterday.
Mansfield deserved at least a replay on the day but paid for two defensive lapses against an excellent Plymouth Argyle side.

Fox grabbed the Pilgrims’ winner 10 minutes from time – his first goal for the club – and said: “I am really delighted and I am glad it means something as well.
“It gets us in the hat for the next round and obviously I am delighted to get off the mark. It’s been a long time coming and frustrating.
“So I am glad to get a goal – and one of some importance as well.
“It was very difficult conditions out there today with the wind, and the team against the wind seemed to deal with it better, which you’d think it would be the other way round and with the wind you’d be able to put on some pressure.”
He added: “They came at us, but I thought we dealt with a lot of their threats. They made it very difficult like we expected. But we stood firm after the second goal and held onto it at the end.”
Fox looked back at his magic moment, saying: “I think recently I’ve had a little bit more of a licence to push on a bit. I am never going to be sprinting in the box every five minutes.
“But I have been pushing in and around it and trying to get a bit nearer to goal.
“It was a great ball from Slewey. I’ve had a touch and I am looking to pass it, but all of a sudden I’ve realised I am 18 yards out and made sure I tried to hit the target.
“Naturally when you’re at the edge of the box you expect someone to come flying out at you.
“But once I’ve taken my touch I’ve realised I have a bit of space. The touch made it such that I could hit it first time
“Hopefully I can now chip in with a few more. I have to try to add goals to my game.
“It’s been a big part of us this season how many lads have scored and I want to be part of that as well.”
