The Boston-born forward had been a victim of early onset dementia for many years.

Vinter was with the Stags from 1984 to 1986 and a key member of Mansfield's Division Four promotion winning side in 1985-1986 under the guidance of Ian Greaves.

He scored seven times for Stags in his 54 league starts, two off the bench.

Initially a Magpies hero, Vinter had bagged 54 goals in 186 games for Notts County between 1971 and 1979 before moving on to Wrexham for three years, where he scored 25 in 101 outings.

From 1982-84 he was at Oxford where he scored 21 in 69 games and, after his spell with Mansfield, moved on to Newport County for 1986/87, netting six goals in 32 games.

He completed his career in non-league with Gainsborough, Matlock, Oakham United and Hucknall.
