He then signed for Mansfield Town a year later, joining under then-manager Danny Williams. Paul played a key role in midfield throughout the mid-1970s, during which time Stags won the Fourth and Third Division Championships in 1975 and 1977 respectively.

Paul left Mansfield and moved to Rotherham United in October 1977 after losing his place at Field Mill when Peter Morris took on a player-manager role.

Paul’s grandson Ethan Hill progressed through the Stags youth ranks in the early 2020s.

Mansfield Town have paid tribute to their former player following the sad news of his passing.

“Paul was a wonderful player for Mansfield Town whose skills are well remembered by the fans who watched him play during his time with the club.”
