The 64-year-old, who won promotion as a player and a manager at Mansfield, was Rowe’s assistant at Gloucester City from December 2019 onwards.

We understand that Foster, who had a spell at Chesterfield as the club’s community officer in the 1990s, is likely to link up again with Rowe if he does take charge at the Proact.

The experienced Foster has an impressive CV, including being Swansea City’s European scout when they were in the Premier League. He has also had scouting roles at Wolves, Coventry City, Hull City, Port Vale, Derby County and Middlesbrough.

During his time at Port Vale, they signed striker Jordan Hugill, who went on to play in the Premier League at West Ham United and is now at Norwich City, after Foster scouted him at Northern League Marske United.

Foster, a former centre-half, made more than 600 appearances across a 19-year career at Plymouth Argyle, Derby and the Stags.

Rowe, 37, held talks with Chesterfield on Monday and left Gloucester City on Tuesday.
