Manchester City are on the brink of completing the £42 million transfer of Leroy Sane from Schalke on a four-year contract worth £100,000 a week. The £42m move will be the second-highest amount paid for a German player, with Mesut Ozil’s £42.5m move to Arsenal in 2013 the only higher fee. (The Sun)

The Daily Telegraph understands that the search for the new England manager has been wider than the names made public and that at least one candidate, who has remained out of the spotlight, has been interviewed in the past 48 hours. Sources would not reveal the identity of the mystery interviewee, but hinted it was not an Englishman. The FA’s No 1 choice, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, turned down the job early in the process.

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of the England Under-21 international defender Rob Holding from Bolton Wanderers. The 20-year-old is understood to have travelled down to London on Monday night for a medical and to finalise personal terms with the Gunners after a bid in the region of £2m was accepted by Wanderers.
