Farnsfield win best-of-five-goals thriller

A Jake Boulton double and a single strike from Jordan Collier earned AFC Farnsfield a best of five goals MAA Premier Division victory at the expense of Southwell City III, who had suffered an 3-1 midweek defeat by runaway leaders AS Plant United, when a Tom Moult hat-trick was answered by a solitary Oliver Watson goal for City.

Plant then went on to complete the double against Trent Vineyard who collapsed to an eventual 7-1 defeat after holding their own at 2-1 thanks to a David Durham strike until well into the second half. However, four goals from James McCann and a James Thorpe double put paid to TV’s hopes of an upset.

A Callum Wilkinson double and a goal from Sean Goodwin saw Old Elizabethans through to a 3-2 victory over FC Coopers, who replied with two goals from Mark Armitage, despite having their keeper dismissed.

Dave Gibson opened the scoring for Mansfield Hosiery Mills before Ryan King replied for Woodborough United before half-time.

Both sides missed good chances in the second half before Jack Squires and Ashley Swain netted to produce an eventual 3-1 victory for Mills.

Steelers were unable to find a reply to a Jason Miles hat-trick and a double from Chris Evans which enabled Division One leaders AFC South Wingfield 93 to maintain their eight point advantage over second placed Derbyshire Amateurs, who were also five goals better than opponents, Old Bemrosians, in an 8-3 scoreline.

Bradley Scard, Johal Isaac and Sam Alfred all recorded doubles whilst Mark Hosker and Will Riley completed the total.

The all-MAA round three tie between Southwell City IV and Sutton Travellers saw Travellers through to the semi-finals of the Notts FA Minor Cup with a 4-1 victory in which Luke Williams netted the City consolation goal.

However Ashfield FC failed to join them in the next round after going down 6-2 to Gedling Southbank Colts with the Ashfield goals coming from Adam Crayton and Rob Bradley.

Alvaston United also failed to reach the Semi Finals of the Derbyshire FA Minor Cup, going down 4-2 to Ashbourne Reserves despite goals from Neil Ainsley and Tom Rutter.
