FA Cup tie launches new season for Shirebrook Town

Under manager Ross Eagles and his number two, Rob Poulter, Shirebrook will be hoping to push for promotion from the Northern Counties East League’s First Division after missing out on the play-offs by just one place and only three points last term.

But firstly comes the small matter of the world’s most famous knockout competition because the FA Cup campaign begins this weekend for Eagles’s squad when they travel to meet Loughborough University in the Extra Preliminary Round.

If they win, they will earn themselves a home tie in the next round against Gresley on Saturday, August 20. If they lose, it will be back to the bread and butter of the league with a trip to Knaresborough Town.

Shirebrook’s first league game is on Saturday, August 13 when they entertain Yorkshire Amateurs at Langwith Road.

Pre-season preparations have included a cluster of frendlies, which culminated with a 3-2 defeat against Bilborough Town last Saturday.
