FA CUP PREVIEW: South Normanton target a good cup run ahead of Lincoln United clash

The club, who ply their trade in the East Midlands Counties Premier, overcame AFC Mansfield 2-1 in the extra-preliminary round of the FA Cup earlier this month.

Now, coach Tommy Leighton says the unbeaten Shiners can claim another scalp when Evo-Stik First Division South side Lincoln United are the visitors this Saturday.

Despite there being two divisions between the two sides, Leighton says the club’s win in the previous round will stand them in good stead for the preliminary round clash with Lincoln.

Leighton said: “We’ve had a strong start to the season and we’ve won four out of five.

“I think beating AFC Mansfield in the previous round of the FA Cup was a big marker.

“They’re known as being quite big spenders so it was a good scalp for us.

“Saturday is a free run for us.

“The FA Cup is the big carrot dangling for every player but luckily we’re not under pressure to perform financially.

“We’re in a position where anything is a bonus but having said that, this is probably one of the club’s biggest games for a long time.

“We want to impress.

“Playing at home is always an advantage and we love playing there.

“We’re looking to continute our good start but we know it will be tough against an Evo-Stik side.”

Leighton, 31, says that he hopes to see a few more swell the gate at Lees Lane.

With local Football League sides such as Chesterfield and Mansfield on the road, and Derby County in action early on Saturday lunchtime, Leighton hopes supporters will be enticed by some FA Cup action on their doorstep.

He added: “Hopefully we get one or two more fans in.

“I know a few who are heading straight from the Derby versus Leeds game.

“With Chesterfield and Mansfield being away from home, there will be hopefully be a bit of local interest.”

Kick-off against Lincoln United is 3pm, with tickets on the gate.
