Veteran stopper Brian Jensen, at the age of 41, has been given a one-year deal at Irish club Crusaders while Scott Shearer, 36, has signed a 12-month contract, with an option for a further year, at Oxford United.

Jensen, known as The Beast, is best known for his Premier League days with Burnley.

With regular Crusaders keeper Sean O’Neill out injured for at least another four months, the 6ft 5ins giant knows this is a great chance to stake a claim at the Irish Premiership runners-up.

“I am delighted to sign for Crusaders and I look forward to getting involved with pre-season and getting to know the lads,” he said.

“I have heard good things about them from Michael Dougherty and I just now want to get the shirt on and show what I can do.”

Much-travelled Shearer told BBC Radio Oxford.: “In terms of where the club wants to go, it fits in with me - I’m very ambitious.

“I’ve had a lot of promotions but I still want to achieve more, so it gave me a new challenge coming to Oxford.”

Both keepers fell behind on-loan Sheffield Wednesday goalie Jake Kean in the OCS pecking order in January.

Stags have already brought one new keeper in with the signing of Conrad Logan.
