The former striker, who scored more than 100 Football League goals, is working with the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust.

Now 45, Lormor wants to use the profile he had in a previous life to raise awareness of his new vocation.

Having completed an arctic dog sled trek last year for charity, Lormor has lined up another impressive physical challenge.

“I’m going to do a cycle challenge,” he said.

“I want to raise awareness of what the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust and raising money will be secondary, but I want to do something unique that no one else has done – a bike ride taking in the seven football clubs I signed for on a permanent basis.”

Lormor will begin at Preston North End’s Deepdale ground before cycling to Newcastle United and over the course of five days taking in Hartlepool, Chesterfield, Mansfield Town, Lincoln City and Peterborough United.

His training has started in earnest under the watchful eye of four-time Olympian Bryan Steel who specialises in cycling coaching.

“The ride will finish at the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust headquarters in London,” said Lormor.

“It will be about 515 miles.

“I didn’t want to do the London to Paris ride or Land’s End to John O’Groats, I wanted something different.”

Lormor’s passion for his current job and a desire to let more people know about it is behind his gruelling September bike ride.

“I’ve just finished running a course for the Trust in Nottingham, it was with young adults aged 18 to 25 classed as ‘NEET’ - not in eductation, employment or training.

“It’s a motivational course with a number of activities that stretch them and allow them to find out about themselves and what they want to do.

“We finished the course with 18 and they all found out what they wanted to do and got a pathway to try and get into it.

“But I realised in Nottingham no one had really heard about what we were trying to do.

“There’s something great going on but it’s under the radar.

“I want to try and get the word out.”

Lormor has already lived the dream once as a professional footballer, winning promotion to Division Two with the Spireites.

But the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust has given him a new lease of life.

“I’ve been doing it for just about a year – I started last June as a volunteer,” he said.

“It’s something I’ve been searching for since football finished, helping people who had lost their confidence.

“I’ve really thrown myself into it.

“They’re in 40 locations and want to go into over 100 towns and cities in the next four years.

“If I can help promote what they do that will be brilliant.”.
