They went closer in the ninth minute as Luke Walker created space, but his goal-bound effort was blocked.

Garforth came into the game and they were unlucky when in the 11th minute Luke Kitson’s cross was headed against the bar by Mitch Hamilton.

That was to be the start of a period of Garforth pressure and when a poor defensive clearance in the 19th minute was gathered on the right, Calum Ward was unmarked from the resulting cross and scored.

At that stage Rainworth were struggling to put together a concerted period of possession.

They went close to an equaliser in the 33rd minute when Modest found Walker and his shot on the turn forced Pete Lawrie to palm it out for a corner.

That was the last piece of action of a half were Garforth had been in the ascendency.

At the start of the second half Rainworth were forced into a substitution when Max Pemberton replaced the injured Walker.

It was to be the start of a half that Rainworth dominated and in the 46th minute, after a good passage of play, Danny Booth put his effort wide. In the 52nd minute, after another good move, he also saw his goal-bound effort blocked.

Rainworth had an excellent opportunity to equalise in the 55th minute when Jack Waddle’s cross found Modest, but he wasn’t strong enough and was eased off the ball and the chance went.

Rainworth were now putting Garforth under severe pressure but for all their effort it lacked a decisive finish.

Garforth were indebted to Lawrie in the 60th minute when Modest won the race, but as he tried to round the keeper he managed to grab the ball.

Garforth went straight down the other end and Ward’s goal-bound effort was blocked by Townsend.

Rainworth made their second substitution on 61 minutes, bringing on James Munson for James Knowles. A minute later a last-ditch interception by Josh Dacre prevented him tapping home Modest’s cross.

In the 75th minutes later Julian Lawrence put Munson through on goal but Lawrie came out and saved with his legs.

Rainworth made their final substitution in the 75th minute, bringing on Liam Royles for Rob Ludlam.

A rare Garforth attack in the 83rd minute saw Joshua Ross block Hamilton’s effort with his legs.

Rainworth knew it wasn’t going to be their day when in the final minute of normal time Ross’s goal-bound was blocked by his own player Munson.

At the final whistle Rainworth had only themselves to blame for the defeat. Their failure to convert their numerous chances cost them dear and on too many occasions they looked to take another touch or pass instead of getting a shot on goal.
