Early Christmas as Teversal beat promotion-chasers away from home

It was Eccleshill who had the early opportunities with Ryan Brooks in the Tevie goal showing he was on top form and giving the foundation for the visitors to take control of the game.

The first opportunity for the hosts came from Adam McCabe, who turned and fired a low drive from the edge of the box, but the keeper parried it to safety on 11 minutes.

Two minutes later Brooks then thwarted Ryan Mills superbly executed volley with an equally impressive save.

From that point Teversal dominated the game with an excellent team performance that saw them harass and frustrate the Bradford side, who didn’t like the close attention from the hard-working visitors.

The referee was forced into a decision that led to the Tevie Boys taking the lead. Gregory was in full flow and Springer hacked down the midfielder and the question was if the challenge was in the box or outside?

The referee said free kick but the Tevie camp thought penalty. Further controversy in the decision followed as Springer should have received a yellow for the rash challenge, but the Eccleshill man was fortunate to get away with a stern talking to from the referee.

However, the true punishment was issued from the free kick when Brad Cox stepped up to smash a thunderous free kick that Roslund managed to get a hand on but couldn’t prevent his side going 1-0 down on 40 minutes.

Eccleshill were lucky to finish the first period with 11 players on the park when Burrell looked like bursting through on goal, but Malcolm Calbert, who had been cautioned earlier, pulled Burrell back with a free kick awarded and everyone expected the second yellow, but again the referee opted for a stern talking too.

The home management team didn’t take the risk of another misdemeanour from their number six and substituted the lucky Calbert at the break.

The second half continued in the same vain with the cushion of the second goal on 48 minutes seeing an even more dominant performance.

The goal came from an Eccleshill corner when, from a scramble, Dickinson cleared the ball out with Cox chasing out of his own 18 yard box to send a ball in behind the home defence that saw Wood race away to slot past the advancing Roslund to make it 2-0.

Burrell went close with an effort going wide, but the Teversal player expressed the keeper saved his effort.

Then Roslund made an excellent save to deny the blushes of Dishon Isaack’s attempted defensive header that was heading for the bottom corner.

Eccleshill were restricted in opportunities and the few they had, had been from distance and Brooks coped with these with ease.

Teversal hope to take the impressive form into their game on Saturday when they entertain Shaw Lane Aquaforce with a 3pm kick-off in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One.
