Early advantage allowed to slip in home defeat

Mark Robinson's early goal was not enough as Shirebrook Town slipped to a surprise 2-1 home defeat.

Robinson was played in and fired across the keeper and into the bottom corner to give Town a 20th minute advantage.

But struggling Parkgate recovered to grab their first victory of the season.

The second-from-bottom visitors fought back to level when Sam Ackroyd was left unmarked at the back post in the 35th minute.

Parkgate finished the half strongly, but Shirebrook held out until the interval.

The home side started the second period well with Kieren Darby and Sam Dockwray both having chances.

But in the 59th minute Brandon Bagley hit what proved to be Parkgate’s winner.

A shot from distance then forced Shirebrook keeper Levi Owen into a save.

In the final 20 minutes Shirebrook struggled to put together any attacks and, with Parkgate beginning to waste time, the home side became frustrated and could not find a way back.
