Dramatic last-gasp winner for ten-man Ollerton

It looked as if the spoils would be shared at Yorkshire Amateur after Josh Bowkett’s opener for Ollerton had been cancelled out by Adam Shaw’s penalty, especially as Sam Stretton was sent off for two bookable offences in the final minute of normal time.

But in the last act of the game, Tom Cooke’s throw-in from the right found its way into the area, where Lewis Bingham kept the ball under close control before sliding a pass across to Sam Dockwray, who netted from close range to clinch a 2-1 win and spark jubilant scenes in the visiting camp.

It was by no means Ollerton’s best performance of the season, nor their most impressive result, but it moved them 14 points clear of the drop-zone and means next-to-bottom Westella and Willerby now need to win all three of their games in hand to get within touching distance of Dave Winter’s side.

Yorkshire Amateur almost drew first blood when the lively Shaw skipped past two defenders before hitting the inside of a post. But a turning point came at the end of the first half after a clash with Kyle Ludlow that resulted in home ‘keeper Suwara Bojang having to leave the field injured and be replaced by an outfield teammate. As a result of the collision, Bingham saw an effort cleared off the line, but moments later, Ollerton took the lead as Ludlow closed down the makeshift custodian, whose attempted clearance deflected into the path of top scorer Bowkett and he kept his cool to net his 13th goal of the season and end his recent drought.

Ludlow went close to doubling the lead before the hosts levelled on 70 minutes when Rob Evans was adjudged to have fouled Joel Hughes for a spot-kick that Shaw fired into the top corner.
