Danny Clarke leaves Alfreton Town... but he could be back
Striker Danny Clarke has left Alfreton Town... but he could well be back next season.
The experienced attacker has had his contract terminated by mutual consent after a two-year spell at the Impact Arena as he hopes to continue playing this season.
But Clarke hasn't ruled out returning to the Reds, whose campaign was declared null and void.
"I'm 36 in a couple of weeks and I want to keep playing, I can't wait another few months to be out of the game at my age, so I will be looking to play locally for the remainder of this season with the hope of speaking with Billy regarding next season," he told Alfreton's website.
Manager Billy Heath said: "It looks as though Danny has an opportunity to continue playing locally at a grassroots level and that is typical of the player he is, at his age, he just wants to play and has the desire to do so, the termination of his contract does not rule him out returning to the club in the summer."
Alfreton will kick off next season on August 14, it has been announced.
The National League has announced the start dates for next season's competitions.
The North and South will both get underway on Saturday, August 14, with the National League kicking off a week later.
Players and fans will be itching to return to action after this season - which began belatedly in October due to Covid-19 - was made null and void.
Next season’s league line-up look likely to be unchanged after the campaign was axed and leagues below all curtailed.
