Craig Weston believes top four place is achievable for Rainworth this sseason

Rainworth joint-boss Craig Weston is targeting a top four spot following their encouraging start to the season.

The Wrens are currently seventh in the early EMCFL table and sit four points off fourth-placed Clifton All Whites with two games in hand.

And Weston, who took charge of the Kirklington Road side alongside Richard Smith in the summer, feels a promotion place is an achievable goal.

“I don't think we are being too greedy setting our sights on the top four,” he said.

“It is a long season and we are only eight games in.

“There is a long way to go and a lot of hard work ahead, but you have to set your sights on something that is not too unrealistic and I think the top four is do-able.

“We have had a tough start to the season with facing Sherwood and Belper. If they are the yardstick then I think the top four can be in our sights.

“When you are new to a club you want to look at the players and bring in ones who can take the club forward.

“It takes a bit of time to get the ingredients right and the balance of the side. It's settling down nice and I’m pleased with how it’s gone.

“There is always room for improvement. The lads have trained really hard and the signs are good and encouraging.

“If you get lads who want to improve, to train hard and listen to what we are saying you won't be far off.”

The second lockdown has come at a bit of a bad time, but hopefully we can pick up where we left off as we were in good form.”

And the former Selston boss believes his side will be helped by improved fitness levels this season.

“We worked hard on fitness when we came in,” he added. “Rainworth has not been a fantastic side recently. I’ve been there with Selston and beaten them every time quite convincingly.

“The lads have done well. They have bought into what we are about and stepped up to the mark.

“Good fitness means we are able to hold 1-0 leads and go into the last 20 mins of a game fit.

“There are many goals shipped late on when teams are tired and not concentrating.”
