County U16 in League Cup final

Notts County Ladies U16 showed the desire and workrate needed to earn a place in the League Cup final with a 2-1 win over Sherwood.

County took the lead when Jade Henderson played a square ball into Sara Duffield who smashed the ball into the net.

Sherwood found the equaliser just before the break with a well taken free kick.

With everything even the next 45 minutes was going to be riveting as both teams were giving no quarter as the ball was fiercely contested.

Notts County were awarded a free-kick in a similar spot to Sherwood’s free kick in the first period and it had the same outcome as Kelsea Marriott’s lofted shot stunned the Sherwood keeper.

The Magpies didn’t sit back as they looked to hit on the counter as Sherwood started to use the long ball over the top and began to throw everything at the girls in black and white.

But County stood strong and defended well to the final whistle and secured their place in the Notts Girls and Ladies Football League Cup Final where they will meet Nottingham Forest.
