Marek Stech isn't ruling out a push for the play-offs.

Mansfield Town may currently sit 21st in the League Two table, having secured their first win at the 12th time of asking at Forest Green Rovers on Saturday.

But the club has been rejuvenated in recent weeks and they host Colchester United tonight (KO 7pm) unbeaten in five matches, having won their last three games in all competitions.

In a tight table, just six points separate 11th-place Salford City and struggling Scunthorpe United in 22nd.

The Stags, themselves, can look up the table and see tonight's opposition, currently sitting in the final play-off place, lead them by just nine points with 30 games left to play.

It may be a tall order for Town to pull themselves up to the top seven, but keeper Stech has faith in his teammates' ability to put a frustrating start behind them.

"When I joined this club I said, the previous gaffer and the players he brought in, it's decent," he said.

"You can see now it's coming into place two or three months down the line.

"Our targets are to still try to win game by game, keep winning. Could we make the play-offs? Who knows?

"We want to get to mid-table at the minute. If you look at the table now, win two games we might be up to 12th or 13th place. Let's take it game by game and see what happens."

The U's, however, will be no pushovers.

And Stech expects a tough test against a side who were placed sixth when last season was settled via points per game.

"They're very solid. They were in the play-offs last season so they're going to be a decent team," he added.

"They'll be direct. They've got decent strikers so we've got to make sure we play our formation and stick to the gameplan.

"It will be important for us to get our first home win as well."

After four games on the road, Stech is keen to return to One Call Stadium.

He added: "I think it will be good to play at home again. We need to get our first win.

"We've got a beautiful stadium, everything's there, so it's important for us to start winning at home because we've been getting draws and lost a few games.

"It's important to keep doing what we're doing. If we can win our home games we can move up the table, which is important for us, the gaffer and the fans."
