Clay Cross suffer defeat to table toppers Selston

It was the first return to Mill Lane of 2016 for Clay Cross Town last Saturday and the opposition was provided by table toppers Selston FC.

The visitors had enjoyed a 14-match unbeaten run so it was a formidable task that the Millers faced in front of a bumper attendance.

The Millers started off brightly and only a fine save by Jake Ball prevented Tomas Poole opening the scoring after his piercing run.

Each side tested the respective keepers throughout the first half but with no reward. Shortly after the break Selston went ahead when Carl Moore scored from close range.

That lead was further increased on the hour, when on this occasion, Ben Moore was the scorer. The floodgates began to open when Jamie Renshaw fired an unstoppable effort past Liam Wajs.

Then a fourth goal came from ex-Miller player, Callum Lytham before a penalty on 85 minutes was converted by Steven Radzynski to make it 5-0.

Next Saturday the Millers travel to Hucknall Town. Kick-off 3pm.
