CATLING'S CORNER STAGS BLOG: Mansfield Town must go for it at Morecambe!

Another week gone and I'm sat here hoping and praying that our season isn't going downhill quickly after such a decent first part of the season.

A loss at AFC Wimbledon last week was followed by another disappointing defeat at home against Luton.

To start this week’s blog I’m going to say congratulations to Matt Green for moving to joint seventh on the list of goal scorers at our club with his goal last week.

The game yesterday against Luton was, without doubt, the worst home performance of the season.

To be honest, we played exactly like we did throughout the season last year, but with obviously different players.

There was absolutely no fight or spark from the players and to say it was terrible is an understatement.

I didn’t reckon anything at all to Luton, but we made them look good with how we played.

We knew their players would be up for the game with it being their manager’s second game in charge and never having won at our ground before.

I think all Stags fans knew we’d lose after being told this statistic all week.

Last week started with the news that Blair Adams had gone back to Notts Clownty - a real blow to us as he has been fantastic since coming in.

Good luck at Clownty Blair - you’re going to need it.

We did, however, bring in just before the game Fulham left back Sean Kavanagh on loan till end of season - welcome Sean.

I think that Murray needs to finally change the formation and his stubbornness not to put two up front.

I’d put Beardsley up top to play alongside Greeny - if he’s not going to use Beardsley what the heck was the reason he signed for us?

Talking of Murray’s stubbornness, I think he should also drop Chapman as well as he is badly out of form and, as I have said in previous blogs, he and Clements cannot play together.

Not one player on the pitch played well and we were done once again by the simplest of goals.

We need to turn this around on Tuesday in another tough away game against Morecambe.

If we don’t win this game, this season could drop off quickly.

For a change, just go for it Stags. Put two up there and go at a team and see if it works.

I’ve still not seen a good team yet this season and if the talented players we have perform then we can do it on Tuesday.

We are still only just outside the play-offs, but our play and performance need to improve because at the moment we are not going to beat anybody how we are playing.

So come on Adam Murray’s barmy army and COYS!
