Buxton in no rush after striker trio leave

But he said it was still early days and he was in no rush to sign players until he knew exactly what else he would be needing.

Two experienced players, Jan Budtz and Greg Young have already put pen to paper to stay at the club.

But striker Brad Grayson has elected to join Mickleover while fellow forwards Jamie Jackson and Nicky Walker have been released.

“It is still pretty early,” said McIntosh. “I am speaking to a lot of players but I am sure they’re speaking to other clubs too.

“Last year we signed 10 new players but this year it won’t be as many.

“We need to know who else is staying and who is going so we know what we need. But I am not too concerned at the moment as there is plenty of time between now and the start of the season.

“Last year we signed four in the week before the season started.”

The manager was delighted to see Budtz and Young stay with the Bucks, saying: “These are experienced lads and they have enjoyed their time here.

“They love it at Buxton so were happy to sign. We have a few others we’ve retained, so I think we are ahead of the game at the moment.”

On releasing Jackson and Walker, he said: “Both of them towards the second half of the season never really featured a lot for us so we’ve let them go.

“I have spoken to the two players and told them I expected more from them over the course of the season.

“They are still good players and I am sure they will get another club. That might re-ignite them wherever they go.

“But I was slightly disappointed with them and, being honest lads, I am sure they’d agree and say they should have chipped in with more goals and been playing a lot more than they were.”

On Grayson’s move to Mickleover, he added: “He did well for us. He was another one couldn’t get a club last year and we signed him a week before the season started.

“After jumping round three or four different clubs he settled with us and did really well. But we will replace him and hopefully they will do the same as he did.”

Pre-season is coming together well for Buxton with visits from Chesterfield, Crewe, Port Vale, Glossop, Gainsborough Trinity and Leek Town booked so far.

“I might still add another to that,” said McIntosh.

“At the moment we have some good matches. We have six matches in which hopefully we can bring in good crowds and some revenue which always helps.”

The Bucks also have the big Buxton XI versus Manchester United Legends side that takes place on Sunday, 25th June (2pm) at the Silverlands.

Arthur Albiston will be bringing a very experienced United side that will feature the likes of European Cup winner David May plus Albiston, Sammy McIlroy, Clayton Blackmore and Frank Stapleton who between them totalled over 1,200 league matches for the Reds.

The Buxton side will feature all-time leading appearance and goals scored record holders in David Bainbridge and Mark Reed plus the current first team and development side’s management.
