Boss Taylor happy with Clipstone's unbeaten pre-season run

Manager Micky Taylor said he was happy with a 1-1 draw away to local-derby rivals Blidworth that maintained his Clipstone side's unbeaten run in pre-season friendlies.

“We dominated the game and created a load of chances,” said Taylor. “Yes, we could be more clinical up front, but everyone needs to put things into perspective.

“We have only just got together as a side. Sooner or later, someone is going to get a drubbing off us because we can’t keep missing out chances like we are.”

In a goalless first half, Clipstone piled on the pressure and struck a post. But they didn’t make the breakthrough until Taylor sent on substitute Dean Rick at half-time. He struck in the 47th minute after good work by Steve Sowter and Julian Topliss.

“Dean is renowned for his goalscoring and he did exactly what we wanted him to do,” said Taylor, who was also pleased with the contributions of Sowter and Topliss.

“Steve is so fit and just runs and runs. He has the ability too and will be perfect for us, providing us with legs from box to box. Ju’s attitude is fantastic. Once he gets one goal, he’ll go on to get 20 or 30.”

Blidworth equalised in the 70th minute when the Cobras failed to clear a free-kick and goalkeeper Charlie Dando was beaten by a low, curling shot from the edge of the area.

“After scoring, I felt we dropped off and let the game get away from us. But we had a lot on last week, training on Tuesday and then a tough match against Hucknall on Thursday.”
