Boss happy as Brentnall fires Welfare to victory

After the victory over Matlock Town Reserves, Blidworth manager Lewis Saxby said “I’m happy we were able to get the three points.

“It wasn’t the best performance but we held strong against an energetic and enthusiastic side and got a cleansheet and the win.”

The first chance fell to the home side after two minutes as the returning Lewis Weaver crossed to Cameron Davidson, whose shot was stopped.

New Blidworth keeper Josh Hollis showed great strength in the ninth minute to beat Matt Coleman to the ball and then save.

In the 38th minute Blidworth had the ball in the net, but Lewis Weaver’s finish from Brentnall’s cross was ruled offside.

Six minutes later, though, Brentnall hammered in after a good run down the left by Weaver.

Just after the hour Ethan Knowles’ cross-cum-shot was cleared off the line by home skipper Aidy Harris.

At the other end, good passing between Harris and Tony Edwards down the right channel ended with Harris sliding a ball across for Weaver, but the striker fired wide from close range.

Lively substitute Declan Sorrell nearly got an equaliser late on but he could only see his shot from the edge of the box deflect into the hands of Hollis thanks to the rushing block by Jonathan Jenkinson.

Jenkinson nearly helped his side at the other end of the pitch in the last minute as he popped a header back across goal and just past the post after connecting on to the end of a Jonathan Drake free kick from the left side.
