Boss disappointed as perfect record goes

The draw did extend the Reds’ unbeaten run to five games at home, they are also unbeaten in their last three league outings and Law feels his side are progressing well, but he was still not totally happy.

The Reds boss reflected: “I think we have deserved to win that game. I think they have given us everything they have got, they have had attempts from long range, I think Ross (Atkins) has had a save to make early on, but in the second half he has not had a save to make and they have scored from a deflected free kick.

“I thought my lads were great, and I thought we played some good football. We defended well as a team and I think it’s progress when you can see the faces of Cambridge (who) have gone off horrified at half-time and they have come off delighted at the end of the game. When the top of the league is delighted with a point here it shows how far we have come.”

Law also declared himself delighted that striker Paul Clayton is finally off the mark this season, with the popular talismanic Reds striker netting his first goal of the campaign at the ninth attempt.

Law added: “Funnily enough I said to him (Clayton) before the game ‘You and John Akinde just keep working hard and keep putting yourself about and something will come. Ok, you have missed chances on Saturday, but at least you are there to miss them and you will get in there and you will get a ricochet or a deflection and that’s what he did.

“He (Clayton) has got in the centre of the goal, Tom Shaw I believe has hit the shot and he (Clayton) has got a touch in. Pleased for Paul, that’s him off the mark now and hopefully he can relax a little bit and now look to take that on.”

Law also thinks the partnership of Clayton and strike partner Akinde is really starting to come together.

He added: “I think him (Clayton) and John Akinde look a real threat up front, they are a real handful for anyone. Akinde when he gets the ball into his feet and gets turning, he is scary.

“I think we look a good side, I do honestly, I think we look a good team and we have done well so far, we have just got to go and build on it now.

“Like I keep saying, you just keep trying to raise the bar all the time. Teams like Cambridge are coming here now and they are delighted, and Richard (Money) may disagree, but he has probably gone away the happier manager tonight.

“I can’t fault my lads and I really feel disappointed for them because I think we deserved the win” ended Law.

This Saturday, Alfreton are on home turf again when Barnet are the visitors to the Impact Arena in Skrill Premier action.

The game kicks-off at 3pm and home fans may get a glimpse of Bees manager Edgar Davids, a former World Cup winner with Holland.

Next Tuesday, Alfreton travel to Southport in league action. Kick-off is 7.45pm.
