Blidworth and Sherwood progress in the FA Vase

It was a memorable afternoon for Central Midlands League clubs in the FA Vase with three teams travelling to higher level opposition and progressing into the second round proper, Blidworth Welfare, Hucknall Town and Sherwood all taking impressive scalps.

Blidworth travelled to Step Five Heanor Town and came away with a highly impressive 4-0 win. Tim Gregory gave them a 16th minute lead which Max Curzon doubled four minutes after half time. Gaz Curtis made the tie safe with Blidworth’s third eight minutes from time before rounding off the win with a late penalty.

Unbeaten Penistone Church lead the Northern Counties League First division but met their match in Sherwood Colliery who came back from West Yorkshire with a 2-1 win under their belts. Penistone had taken the lead but goals from Ashley Kitchen and Steven Sowter put the Wood safely into round two. Pinxton couldn’t quite make it a clean sweep but weren’t disgraced as they went down 2-0 at Staveley Miners Welfare. Hucknall Town overcame Ashby Ivanhoe 4-3 after extra-time.

Elsewhere, in the South division, Teversal reserves lost 1-0 to Linby Colliery and Southwell City’s Dalton Stephens and Liam Moran were the match-winners as they saw off South Normanton 2-1 , Shaun Smith with the Normanton goal.
