Bingham hat-trick makes it a very Good Friday for Ollerton

Ollerton bounced back from a couple of disappointments to show the kind of form that earned them the Central Midlands League, North Division’s team of the month award for February after a run of four wins, scoring 32 goals and leaking only one.

Since landing the accolade, they had lost 4-2 to Blidworth Welfare in the league cup semi-finals and crashed 5-1 to tabletopping Glapwell. But before the Newark game, manager Dave Winter and captain Rob Evans were presented with the award, and their side duly celebrated in style to take the first of eight games remaining this season. Realistically, they have to win them all if they are to have any chance of promotion.

Ollerton were creating chances from the off and finally broke the deadlock just before the break when goalkeeper Simon Smith hammered the ball upfield and as it bounced in the Newark area, Bingham cheekly backheeled it into the net.

Within 17 seconds of the start of the second period, they had scored again -- this time Sam Dockwray lofting a ball over the backline for Bingham to audaciously flick it over diving ‘keeper Sam Russell.

Substitute Danny Wiltshire then had a goal disallowed before having a hand in Ollerton’s third and fourth goals. First he dummied for Kyle Clarkson to hit a brilliant strike into the top corner and in the dying minutes, he slipped the ball through for Bingham, who completed his treble by rounding Russell for his 11th goal in the last six games.
