Back-to-back wins for five star Teversal

Teversal managed to put together back-to-back home wins with an emphatic five star 5-0 win on Saturday against a Yorkshire Amateur side that earlier this season dished out the heaviest defeat on their hosts when they won 5-2 on their patch.

So the Tevie Boys were delighted to overturn that earlier disappointment and follow up their midweek 4-3 win over Dronfield Town in style.

The tone of the game was set right from the off when the home side looked sharp and after only 34 seconds a smart passing move that included Barke, Dickinson and Dave Cockerill picked out the perfectly timed run of Brad Cox, who clinically slotted home past the stranded Bowers to make the perfect start.

Things went from good to excellent for Teversal when another good passing move, this time down the left flank, saw Wilson pass to Williams that allowed the wide man to play in to Burrell, who superbly turned and placed an effort across the keeper and into the bottom corner of the far post to make it 2-0.

Yorkshire Amateur tried to play their way back into the game and had a great opportunity to half the deficit on 10 minutes when Stammer produced a far post cross that invited Heard to head home from six yards, but he guided it over the bar.

The cost of that miss was realised eight minutes later when again a crisp passing move saw Wilson, Cockerill and Cox involved before Williams was given the time to pick out Dickinson, who coolly controlled the ball on the edge of the 18 yard box before passing his effort into the top corner with Bower having no chance of stopping the scoreboard notching over to 3-0.

Danny Williams had a couple of efforts going close before he gained his reward when the visitors failed to clear a Wilson corner and Williams was on hand to fire the loose ball home to make it 4-0 after 22 minutes.

Yorkshire Amateur had their fair share of possession for the remainder of the half but didn’t create any serious threat to the home goal with the home custodian having nothing but routine duties to complete.

With the strong wintry wind behind them, the Ammers continued in the same vain in the second half as they finished the first half, but again it was Teversal who looked the threat going forward with Burrell putting an effort wide of the mark with Bower well beaten.

The best effort for the visitors was a curling effort from the corner of the 18 yard box, but Brooks produced an equally impressive save to parry the ball to safety

The game moved into the last 10 minutes with the visitors then getting their best opportunity when Woods’ through ball sent Smith clear and, as Brooks raced off his line, the striker woefully overhit his attempted lob that cleared the keeper but also the bar.

Teversal raised the tempo to dominate the remainder of the game and could have added more than the one goal they did.

Sean Dickinson went close when he was firstly denied by Bowers’ excellent save and he then fired the rebound goalwards only for Maynard to have tracked back to head clear.

Danny Barke then went on a mazy run that saw him open up the Ammers’ defence before again Bowers made an excellent save.

Josh Radford came off the bench and had a couple of opportunities, none better than when Williams sent in the perfect near post cross that the young striker drove marginally wide.

Radford thought he had won a penalty when he turned Maynard only to be chopped down by a desperate challenge from the defender, but neither the referee nor assistant gave the decision that looked a certain spot kick. Teversal weren’t to be denied a deserved fifth goal to complete a resounding victory and Burrell notched his second with a powerful drive that beat Bowers at the near post from an acute angle.

Teversal’s next game is on Saturday when the Tevie Boys travel to face Eccleshill United for a 3pm kick-off in the Toolstation Northern Counties East League Division One.
