Ashfield climb out of the drop zone

The solitary Midland Amateur Alliance Division One match played saw Ashfield FC share two goals with Eaton Hall College who rose two places to third while Ashfield, who had led at half-time through Luke Smith’s goal, climbed out of the relegation zone.

Jay Miles hit four goals for AFC South Wingfield 93 in their 7-2 Division Two defeat of Alvaston United with Chris Nutt and substitutes Mark Turner and Kyle Morton their other marksmen, whilst Nathan Cossey and Eddie Umana replied for United on a difficult surface.

Elsewhere, Derbyshire Amateurs climbed two places to third when they shared six goals with Sherwood Colliery, who remain in the runners-up spot.

Substitutes Jordan Cranston and Joe Fletcher proved decisive for Colliery when they each scored late goals after Jake Crunkhorn had netted for them in the first half.

Derby Deaf continued their recent good run when Paul Allen’s hat-trick, together with Ali Daziel’s goal, earned his side a 4-2 victory over Southwell St Mary’s, who dropped two places to fifth.

Just one Premier Division fixture was played in which Bassingfield secured a 2-1 half-time lead against Bestwood MWSC with Elliott Colliins and Andy Gorlay their marksmen.

However in a purple patch just after the interval, Ross King, after having netted the Bestwood goal in the first half, completed his hat-trick which, together with Danny Carter’s goal, ensured a 4-2 victory.

This win enabled Bestwood to climb a place to seventh but still left Bassingfield three places above them.
